DBT Group Therapy for Adults
We currently offer a virtual skills-based group for adults based on Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT). DBT skills are helpful for anyone interested in coping more effectively with distressing emotions (e.g. frequent feelings of anger, shame and/or sadness) and relationships problems (e.g. at home and/or at work).
Frequently Asked Questions about DBT Group
The group focuses on four areas: mindfulness, distress tolerance, emotion regulation, and interpersonal effectiveness. Mindfulness skills help decrease anxiety, distractibility, and judgmental thinking. Distress tolerance skills improve one’s capacity to cope with stressful situations without becoming overwhelmed. Emotion regulation skills help decrease up-and-down emotions. Interpersonal effectiveness skills help decrease interpersonal conflict and stress as well as improve relational satisfaction. It takes approximately 6 months to get through all the areas once, but members are encouraged to complete all areas twice. The group is an addition to individual therapy, and you must be in individual therapy to join.
All services at the PSC are on a sliding scale based on annual household income.
Call us at 502-852-6782 and let us know you are interested in joining DBT skills group! You will complete a phone screening to determine if our clinic services are a good fit for your needs.
Mondays 5:30 p.m. - 7:30 p.m. via Microsoft Teams.
Yes. The group is very skills-focused and there is not enough time to talk deeply about how to apply the skills to your life. Therefore, you will still need an individual therapist. We also require that you sign a release allowing us to talk with your therapist. The goal of this is to help you get the most out of the group; if you don’t currently have an individual therapist, please call us at 502-852-6782 to discuss options.
DBT Group for Adolescents (DBT-A)
We offer a DBT skills group for teens who feel overwhelmed by emotions, struggle with conflict in relationships, or want to build stronger coping skills- and for caregivers who want to support them while learning the same tools. This weekly in-person skills group meeting is designed for caregiver-teen dyads to learn and practice together.
