Anthropology Student Life
Anthropology students at UofL benefit from a dynamic blend of academic and research opportunities that bring the study of humanity to life. Beyond the Classroom

- Anthropology Student Association (ASA): Connect with fellow students, engage with faculty, and explore anthropology’s diverse subfields through events, discussions, and networking opportunities.
- Lambda Alpha Honor Society: Join a national honor society that promotes excellence in anthropology while collaborating on events and leadership activities with peers.
Study Abroad
Studying anthropology abroad allows you to experience culture and global connections firsthand. Through immersive learning, you’ll deepen your understanding of human diversity while building cross-cultural skills. Study abroad is a natural extension of anthropology that turns observation into lived experience.

- Portuguese Studies Program (Portugal, Summer): Portugal, a key country in the history of globalization, is an important site for the study of society and politics in the European Union, and of links between Europe, Africa, the United States, and South America. The Portuguese Studies Program sponsors summer study in Portugal for UofL students

Internship Opportunities

Internships allow students to explore the world of anthropology and work in an environment where classroom knowledge is applied to practical learning skills. The department maintains relationships with many local organizations and government offices to assist students in finding an internship placement matched to their interests and career goals. Limited stipends may be available to students who have a financial need and who complete an internship with a not-for-profit 501(c)3 tax-exempt organization.
