Why our Graduate program

Graduate study in communication at UofL is grounded in research competency and close faculty engagement. Admission is reviewed by the department's graduate committee, and coursework spans advanced theory, quantitative and qualitative methods, and applied practice – with opportunities for scholarly research, teaching preparation and professional development.

How to Apply

Apply through the UofL Graduate School with official transcripts, two writing samples demonstrating communication-related research competency, two letters of recommendation (preferably from faculty who can speak to your research potential), the graduate application and fee. Applicants need a 3.0+ cumulative GPA, a B or better in a research methods or statistics course, and an interview with the graduate committee; conditional admission is possible for students with a lower undergraduate GPA. Deadlines: May 1 (fall), November 1 (spring), April 1 (summer) – international applicants should apply earlier to allow time for visa processing.

Funding

The department does not offer graduate assistantships, but funding opportunities may be available in other units across campus and may require earlier application for consideration.
