Before applying for any scholarships, please note the following:
The sum of all institutional aid received cannot exceed the university’s total standard direct cost of attendance plus a stipend. Items in the standard direct cost include regular on-campus tuition charges*, average room**, average board***, and average book costs***. Blue Coats Scholarship
Applicants must be currently employed law enforcement practitioners in Jefferson County, KY who are enrolled in a degree or certificate granting program in the Department of Criminal Justice at UofL.
Preference will be given to those applicants attending a leadership development series or classes in order to advance professionally to a senior leadership position. Secondary preference will be given to applicants completing a bachelor’s degree. Tertiary preference will be given to applicants completing a graduate level degree.
Note:Recipients within less than 5 years of retirement are not eligible.
Applications must be submitted to the Criminal Justice Department Chair, Room 203 Brigman Hall, University of Louisville, Louisville, KY 40292, no later than March 1st
SUPPORTING DOCUMENTS NEEDED FOR APPLICATION
1. Official college transcripts from all colleges attended.
2. Statement from the applicant explaining why he/she has chosen to pursue a career in Law Enforcement and how the scholarship would be beneficial to their success.
3. Letter of recommendation from their agency head, chief or CEO to be considered.
4. Written statement that they are not planning to retire within less than five years.
5. Completed Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA)
6.Resume (currently employed personnel)
7. A photograph suitable for use in Press Releases announcing the scholarship recipients.
Keeling Endowed Scholarship - Graduate
Currently enrolled for a minimum of 6 credit hours;
Must have earned a minimum of 9 credit hours at the University of Louisville;
Must have maintained a 3.0 grade point average;
This scholarship comes from the Deborah G. Keeling Endowment account. Dr. Keeling was past chair (1990-2015) of the Department of Criminal Justice in the College of Arts & Sciences at the University of Louisville. The endowment was named for Dr. Keeling in 2016. The scholarship was established in 2020 to provide financial resources to graduate students pursuing the Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice degree.
Provide a statement of justification for the award.
Complete the application attached and provide two (2) letters of recommendation, preferably from faculty at the University of Louisville.
Complete and submit this application on or before March 15 , for award the following fall.
Preference may be given to students with unmet need who are not receiving other forms of financial aid.
Preference may be given to applicants who have a current FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) on file with the University’s Financial Aid Office.
Scholarship recipients will be competitively selected based on their academic record and statement for justification of the award addressing these criteria.
Keeling Endowed Scholarship - Undergraduate
Currently enrolled for a minimum of 6 credit hours;
Must have earned a minimum of 30 credit hours at the University of Louisville;
Must have maintained a 2.5 grade point average;
This scholarship comes from the Deborah G. Keeling Endowment account. Dr. Keeling was past chair (1990-2015) of the Department of Criminal Justice in the College of Arts & Sciences at the University of Louisville. The endowment was named for Dr. Keeling in 2016. The scholarship was established in 2020 to provide financial resources to undergraduate students pursuing the Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice degree.
