Graduate Admissions

Graduate study in applied geography is exactly that – applied. You’ll train in advanced quantitative, qualitative and spatial analysis with research-active faculty, and finish with a thesis or non-thesis path that fits your goals – ready for professional practice, research or the doctorate.

Accelerated BS/MS in Applied Geography (in-person) – Through the Soaring Scholars program, exceptional Applied Geography majors – and qualifying minors from other programs – earn up to nine graduate credit hours during senior year that count toward both degrees, finishing the MS in as little as two to three semesters and saving both time and expense.

How to apply

  1. 1
    Determine your eligibility

You'll need a bachelor's degree from an accredited institution — preferably in biology — and a minimum 3.0 undergraduate GPA. GRE scores (or MCAT/DAT) are optional but can strengthen your application. International applicants whose degree wasn't earned at an English-language institution will also need a TOEFL of at least 83 (internet-based), an IELTS of at least 6.5 or a Duolingo score of at least 105.

  2. 2
    Apply to the Graduate School

All applicants submit the following through the Graduate School application portal:

    • Completed application and $65 fee
    • Official transcripts from all institutions attended
    • At least two letters of recommendation addressing your academic and/or artistic achievements
