Undergraduate Admissions

Headed for medicine, research or industry? Chemistry and biochemistry at UofL give you the lab experience and faculty mentorship to get there.

Undergraduate Admissions

It starts with admission to UofL. To declare a chemistry or biochemistry major, you’ll finish CHEM 202 (or an equivalent transfer course) with a C or better. No portfolio, no audition, no separate departmental application. Once that prerequisite is done, you’re in, and your advisor will help you map your path from general chemistry to your degree.

Become a Cardinal

We’re here to help along every stage of your journey to UofL. Whether you’re drawn to biochemistry, organic chemistry, materials science or the pre-health path, you’ll find your place in our welcoming community at the Department of Chemistry.

  • Tell us you are interested – Join the UofL mailing list for announcements, deadlines and events.

  • Visit Chemistry – Meet our faculty, learn about our majors and research labs and explore the student community.

  • Apply now – Ready to join the Cardinal family? Start your application today.

Affordability Matters

UofL's Cardinal Commitment Grant narrows the gap between scholarships/financial aid and the cost of attendance. Students who receive a Pell Grant, CAP Grant and KEES will have 100% of their tuition covered. Other awards range from $2,000 to $7,000. Pursue your creative dreams without the worry of mounting college debt.

Transfer Students

The Department of Chemistry welcomes transfer students! We evaluate transfer credit on an individual basis and work with you to determine how your previous coursework applies and where you’ll be placed.
