Finish What You Started with UofL General Studies

Your path doesn’t have to be traditional to be powerful.

You’ve already put in the work. Now, take the next step toward completing your degree with the University of Louisville’s Bachelor of Science in General Studies.

Designed for busy lives and built for big goals, General Studies offers a flexible path to degree completion that builds on the college credits you’ve already earned — with online and on-campus options that fit your life.

A flexible degree built around your goals

  • Build on previously earned college credits instead of starting from scratch. Transfer credit applicability is determined through review.
  • Explore multiple academic track options and tailor your education to your interests and goals.
  • Choose online or on-campus coursework to fit work, family and other commitments.
  • Explore whether eligible learning from professional experience may qualify for up to 30 tuition-free credits through the Prior Learning Assessment.

Your work experience can count, too.

Your learning doesn’t only happen in the classroom. Eligible learning gained through work experience may qualify for up to 30 tuition-free credits through the Prior Learning Assessment, helping you put your experience toward your degree.

Real students. Real paths forward.

“Grow while balancing work, life, and education”

“UofL has been a place where I’ve been able to grow while balancing work, life, and education. As a non-traditional student, I appreciate how inclusive and flexible the university is.”— Shonna Hennig, General Studies student

Hennig chose General Studies with a focus on Criminal Justice and a minor in Pan-African Studies, combining her interests in justice, ethics and social equity with an education tailored to her goals.

A degree-completion story at age 81

Susan Martin had earned college credits at several universities but had never finished a degree. When she returned to UofL, advisors helped her discover that she needed only four more courses. She completed most of them online and earned her Bachelor of Science in General Studies in May 2026 at age 81, graduating alongside her daughter, who earned a doctorate.
