Student Experience
Interdisciplinary learning, real-world partnerships and a community that takes ideas seriously — discover what makes Humanities at UofL exceptional.
Humanities Student Life
Humanities students benefit from a blend of academic rigor and real-world engagement. They work alongside faculty who are active scholars, pursue internships with Louisville's rich network of cultural and historical institutions, and build programs of study tailored to their own intellectual interests. Small class sizes mean real relationships — with professors who know your name, engage your ideas and invest in your success. These experiences, combined with a flexible curriculum you help design, develop the critical thinking and communication skills that prepare you for wherever you want to go next.
Academic Opportunities
Beyond the Classroom
Humanities students connect with a wider community through student organizations, campus events and opportunities to engage Louisville's cultural and public life.
Graduate students can get involved with the Association of Humanities Academics (AHA) — a graduate-student-led organization that hosts monthly social events, research presentations, workshops and guest speakers, and administers the annual Dr. Annette Allen Award for Excellence in Mentorship.
Each year, the Global Humanities Series brings noted scholars, artists and public intellectuals to campus to explore the humanities from a global and contemporary perspective. Running since 2011, the series has welcomed filmmakers, poets, linguists and museum directors — and all students are encouraged to attend.
"I have learned much about myself and life through this course. So happy I chose this."
