Leading with Legacy: Taylor Griffith's Path from Pan-African Studies to Law School

Taylor Griffith’s experience in a Pan-African Studies theatre course created a deep connection to her personal heritage in a way that she had never experienced before as a student, ultimately shaping her own path forward to pursuing a career in law.

“We delved into a lot of Black literature, talking about enslaved Americans, and Black women in different eras, and it was the first time I had taken a course, read, and felt connected to the people that I was reading about,” she said.

Our annual MFA Graduates Exhibition presents the work of the year’s graduating MFA students in a group exhibition that celebrates the completion of their MFA degrees, as well as shares the work with the Louisville community. This year the exhibition will feature all three of our MFA grads, and will be on view at the CCVA from May 17-July 3, 2024.

B.S. in General Studies Graduate Finds Her “Why” in the Classroom

General Studies is a new major in the College of Arts & Sciences launched in 2022 that offers nontraditional students a shorter path to earning their degree. Simone Rivera, class of 2024, is among the program’s first 10 graduates, and her journey illustrates how a bachelor’s degree can lead to a rewarding career that would not have been obtainable without it.

Liam Gallagher’s ambition to have an impact in the world of politics all began in the first grade when he had the chance to meet the President of the United States at the time: Barack Obama.

“I was a little boy, and I was thinking, ‘I want to be him someday,’” Liam said.

Liam’s father, an artist, had painted a portrait of Michelle Obama in 2004, and as a result in 2008, this chance encounter with the leader of the free world opened Liam’s young mind to the possibility of one day achieving the highest office in the United States.
