Student Life & Opportunities
WGST is a small, supportive department where discussion-based classes, a student lounge and close faculty mentorship turn classmates into colleagues. Every major completes a 70-hour service-learning placement with a Louisville partner such as the Center for Women and Families or the ACLU of Kentucky, and every graduating major presents their work in a seminar-style capstone. Along the way you can compete for the Carolyn Krause Maddox Paper Prize and the June Jordan Prize, join community-engaged research and travel to Ghana through the International Service Learning Program.
Undergraduate Admissions
Admission to the BA or BS requires a minimum 2.0 cumulative GPA and a 2.0 GPA in major courses – meet with your advisor and declare. The 3+3 Track to Law requires a 3.5 cumulative and major GPA, allows only 30 hours of distance education and requires a separate law school application that meets all Brandeis School of Law admissions requirements. Soaring Scholars apply during junior year (60–90 credit hours) with a 3.35 overall and major GPA and must maintain a 3.35 in WGST during senior year.
