From Mentee to Mentor: Alumna DeShara Doub Inspires the Next Generation
August 19, 2025
DeShara Doub ’10, ’18 — UofL alumna, mental health professional, and founder of Vision of Promise — has come full circle in her Cardinal journey.
With a bachelor’s degree in communications and a minor in Pan-African studies, followed by a master’s degree in social work with a specialization in couple and family therapy, Doub transformed from a nervous freshman into a leader, scholar, and now future Dr. Doub.
Today, she is giving back through the new Dean’s Advancement Council Mentoring Program, which connects current students with accomplished A&S alumni. Doub served as a mentor to Aussie Rivers, a junior sociology major with aspirations of teaching, counseling, and making a difference in the world.
The program pairs students with alumni who provide career guidance, personal growth opportunities, and networking connections. For Doub, it’s a chance to invest in the next generation of leaders. For Rivers, it’s the opportunity to learn from a mentor whose path reflects both achievement and purpose.
This initiative is just the beginning of a growing effort to support student success by bridging the wisdom of alumni with the ambitions of current Cardinals.
