Student Experience
A commons room made for mathematical conversation, Math Club and Actuarial Club, a Putnam team and one-on-one research with faculty – in the newly renovated Natural Science Building.
Mathematics Student Life
The Department of Mathematics is housed in the recently renovated Natural Science Building, where most classes meet. Students gather in the Mathematics Commons – a room reserved for undergraduates – to study, socialize and hold club meetings, and work with scientific computing software in the department’s newly refitted 26-seat computer lab.
Math Club and Actuarial Club meet regularly and are open to all students regardless of major, and the Math Help Room offers support for students in introductory courses.
Academic Opportunities
Beyond the Classroom
Biannually in March, the Bullitt Lecture in Mathematics brings a leading mathematician to campus for a public lecture, and seminars, colloquia and guest lectures run throughout the year. Study abroad programs in mathematics are available to UofL students through non-university sponsors – contact the department to explore your options, and see UofL’s Education Abroad office for policies and applications.
