Join the Biology Department

Everyone starts by being admitted to the University of Louisville — then you'll officially declare the biology major, usually in your sophomore year. To declare, you'll complete the four introductory biology courses:

  • Unity of Life (BIOL 240),
  • Experimental Biology I (BIOL 241),
  • Diversity of Life (BIOL 242)
  • and Experimental Biology II (BIOL 243)

each with a C or better, plus MATH 111 with a C or better (or placement into a higher math by exam), while holding a UofL GPA of 2.0 or higher. When you're ready, just submit the Change Major Request form through ULink. No portfolio, no audition — just a solid first year of coursework.

Affordability Matters

UofL's Cardinal Commitment Grant narrows the gap between scholarships/financial aid and the cost of attendance. Students who receive a Pell Grant, CAP Grant and KEES will have 100% of their tuition covered. Other awards range from $2,000 to $7,000. Pursue your creative dreams without the worry of mounting college debt.

Transfer Students

The Department of Biology welcomes transfer students! Work with an academic advisor in the College of Arts and Sciences to make sure your existing credits apply to your best advantage.
