Studio Arts/HPES Building
Constructed in 1961, the Studio Arts/HPES Building is a single-story academic facility that supports hands-on instruction and studio-based learning at the University of Louisville. The building encompasses approximately 32,898 square feet and serves multiple departments across the arts and health sciences.
The building houses key facilities for the Hite Art Institute, including ceramics and sculpture studios that support undergraduate and graduate coursework. These studio spaces are designed to accommodate large-scale, material-intensive processes, providing students with the infrastructure needed for experimentation, fabrication, and professional studio practice.
In addition to Fine Arts studios, the Studio Arts/HPES Building includes faculty offices, classroom space, and facilities for the Department of Health and Sport Sciences. The building is also home to the Thrust Theatre, which supports instruction and performance activities for Theatre Arts, contributing to the interdisciplinary academic environment of the facility.
The Studio Arts/HPES Building plays an important role in the university’s creative and instructional landscape, bringing together visual arts, performance, and health sciences within a shared academic setting.
Ceramics and Sculpture Studios
The ceramics and sculpture programs housed in the Studio Arts/HPES Building provide specialized facilities for three-dimensional art practices, supporting both technical skill development and conceptual exploration.
