The Portland MFA Gallery
Located in Louisville’s historic Portland neighborhood, the Portland MFA Gallery is part of the Hite Art Institute’s Master of Fine Arts program facilities at 1606 Rowan Street. The MFA program relocated to this site in early 2019, establishing a dedicated graduate-level environment within a renovated 19th-century warehouse.
Maintained and operated by Hite MFA candidates, the gallery presents a rotating schedule of exhibitions that reflect the research, experimentation, and professional development of emerging artists. Exhibitions showcase work across a wide range of studio practices, including ceramics, drawing, fiber, glass, painting, printmaking, sculpture, mixed media, book arts, and design.
The Portland MFA Gallery is embedded within the broader MFA studio complex, which provides individual studio spaces for graduate students and faculty. This purpose-built setting supports advanced artistic inquiry, allowing MFA candidates to work independently while engaging with peers, faculty, and visiting artists in a focused graduate environment.
The gallery is open by appointment only. Visitors are encouraged to contact the Hite Art Institute to schedule a visit or to learn more about current and upcoming exhibitions.
Parking: Street parking is available, as well as parking in the lot across the street, which is shared with UofL’s Department of Anthropology.
