Lida Gordon (b. 1949- d. 2021) was a beloved Louisville based fiber artist and long-time faculty member at the Hite Institute of Art + Design. A contemporary artist coming of age in a post-modernist time, Gordon could not avoid the politics nor the poetics of fiber. She explored the transformation of women’s work through fiber art her entire career.

Ashley Rutland’s first-ever published piece in 2023 went from appearing locally in the Courier-Journal to being picked up nationally by USA Today for Christmas Day. 

The piece entitled, “Not everyone's holiday is about family. Christmas traditions remind me what I've been missing,” explores themes around family, identity, and more.

Rachel Singel: From Plants to Paper | Schneider Hall Galleries 

January 9-February 13, 2025 

Artist Statement: My work is a response to the intricacies and depth of natural forms. Lines are the building blocks of my imagery. The etching process in printmaking allows for a technical consideration of how these lines are distributed throughout the work, with the weight of each line relating directly to how much time it is kept in a saline solution. Lines develop into curves, from curves to circles, and then to fields.

Artist Statement: Strange Encounters is a reflection on my interactions with rabbits. Rabbits are prey animals that are very sensitive to changes in their environment. They are extremely nervous and over responsive, exhibiting a ‘freeze and bolt’ response when encountering nearly anything new.
